Feb. 6, 2010 - USATF Western Zone Youth Indoor Track & Field Championships, Fresno Save Mart Center, Fresno State University, Fresno, Ca. - The weather was cold with drizzling rain, but we were warm and comforable inside the Save Mart Center with an Indoor track. The facilities were fantastic and the small 160m rubberized track with high banking curves made for some exciting races and invaluable and fun experience for the small 'Roo Rat contingent. Fielding only three middle distance runners, we were tied for first place in the Team standings early in the meet. That was after the Mile and 800m events were contested and the 'Roo Rats had earned 22 points with four entries. These points first came from Talley Hill who placed 2nd in the Midget Girls Mile Run and then came back an hour later to place 2nd in the Midget Girls 800m Dash. Talley's efforts alone gave the SLDC 'Roo Rats 16 points. The remaining points came from William Ernst who place 3rd in the Youth Boys Mile Run in a great come from behind effort. Hanging tough was John Nichols for a 7th place finish. It was a great experience and the team members had great fun and were excited and eager for more Indoor racing. Attending this meet place a whole new section to the 'Roo Rat Track & Field Distance Records in which each athlete set new marks. You can check it out at bottom of the link HERE. July 27- Aug. 1, 2010 - 2010 USATF National Jr. Olympic Track & Field Championships, Sacramento City College, Sacramento, Ca. - Finding out two days before the event and a day after the Championships started 'Roo Rat Talley Hill had qualified for the Midget Girls 3000m Finals. Here I was on vacation and had no notice from the Pacific Association that Talley had qualified. Thanks to the great effort of Steve Martin, coach of the Above the Grade running club in Paso Robles, Tally was entered in time for the competition. We had officially stopped training since Talley did not make the top three finishers at the Region 16 meet to qualify to go on to Nationals. But, Talley being the competitor she is kept going to the Atascadero All-Comer meets running good efforts from the 100m dash to the 3000m run. Since Talley was in great shape anyway, this helped keep her peak conditioning and paid off big time. Talley ran the Midget Girls 3000m Finals by staying close to the leaders throughout the race and giving it her all in the final 300 meters to medal 5th as a USATF All-American in a PR and New 5th Grade 'Roo Rat Record taking out her own record set a week earlier of 11:07.92. Congratulations to Talley and big Thank You to Steve Martin. You can see photos of Talley in her race HERE
